Delhi's Chief Minister Atishi on Tuesday approved the operation of an additional 111 shops and commercial establishments around the clock. This strategy aims to boost economic activity and provide new employment opportunities, as highlighted in an official release. The Labour Department submitted the proposal, targeting establishments in commercial and retail sectors.

The scheme involves strict enforcement of the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954. Violators face severe penalties. Female employees face work-hour restrictions, with limits set for summer and winter. Businesses must adhere to designated hours, although a 15-minute grace period is allowed if customers are present. Regional opening times will vary and require strict compliance.

The approval followed applications from 175 entities, 111 of which met necessary criteria. Earlier approvals for round-the-clock operations were granted for 23 businesses in February, 32 in January, 29 in August, and 83 in November 2023. The total now surpasses 700, reflecting increased interest and aligning with government economic growth goals.

The Delhi government remains committed to fostering a business-friendly environment, spurring job creation, and endorsing economic expansion. According to CM Atishi, the influx of applications signifies a positive governmental outlook. This expansion seeks to enrich economic opportunities, benefiting both enterprises and consumers by ensuring 24/7 access to goods and services.
