In a groundbreaking development, Morocco and Veolia have inked a memorandum of understanding to embark on Africa's largest desalination project, which is set to become the second-largest globally, the energy group announced on Tuesday.
The plant will be strategically positioned near Rabat and will be constructed, funded, and managed by Veolia for a duration of 35 years. It is designed to meet the water needs of approximately 9.3 million people, as per the firm's statement.
This announcement coincides with French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Morocco, during which multiple business deals aimed at strengthening political ties were signed.
