Nawab Malik, a prominent figure in Maharashtra politics, officially entered the fray for the upcoming assembly elections by filing his nomination as an NCP candidate from the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency on Tuesday. Previously considering an independent candidacy, Malik confirmed to ANI that he had received crucial backing from his party, securing his candidacy status with the official AB form submission.
With the deadline for nominations concluding, the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency is set for a fierce battle, particularly for the influential Muslim vote, traditionally held by Samajwadi Party's Abu Azmi. Expressing gratitude towards NCP leadership, including Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, and Sunil Tatkare, Malik voiced optimism about his chances, emphasizing the vast voter support he anticipates.
The veteran politician, twice elected as MLA from Anushakti Nagar, had declared his independent run following a ticket denial pressurized by BJP alliances. Additionally, Malik's daughter, Sana Malik, will be contesting the Anushakti Nagar seat under NCP's banner. Maharashtra polls are taking place on November 20, with results announced on November 23.
