Manipur Police Cracks Down on Armed Outfits, Arrests Eight UNLF (P) Members

In a major crackdown against illegal armed outfits, Manipur Police have arrested eight members of the banned United Liberation Front of Manipur (Pambei) in Thoubal district. The arrests, made on Monday, were for threatening locals and impeding the land demarcation process, police officials confirmed.
According to an official statement posted on X by Manipur Police, the operation on October 28 led to the seizure of a considerable cache of firearms including three AK-47 rifles, two AK-56 rifles, an M-16 rifle, a 9mm pistol, and significant quantities of live ammunition. The detained individuals were identified as Laishram Atangba Meitei, Leishangthem Nongpok Meitei, Thongam Khangakpa Meitei, Thiyam Ningthou Meitei, Akoijam Thoupangba Meitei, Thounaojam Sugnu Ngakpa, Ngasepam Nongthouba Meitei, and Sorokhaibam Nganba.
In a related operation earlier last week, Assam Rifles alongside Manipur Police recovered caches of weapons from various districts. Authorities have heightened security across the state, ensuring the safe transit of essential goods and maintaining checkpoints to control unlawful activities as the situation remains tense but stable.
