Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) announced on Tuesday that an oil spill in its waters during a ship's refuelling had been effectively contained. The spill, amounting to about 5 metric tons, occurred on October 28 during bunkering activities involving the Bahamas-flagged bulk carrier Ines Corrado and a licensed bunker tanker in eastern Singapore's Changi waters.
By 8 a.m. local time, the MPA confirmed there was no visible oil at sea or along the shore. The authority informed Malaysian authorities about the spill and has begun an investigation to uncover the cause of this marine incident.
This prompt response underscores the importance of international cooperation and preventive measures in dealing with maritime environmental challenges.
