ISRO Chief Emphasizes Evolving Space Dynamics and National Interest Protection

Speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue, he highlighted challenges in tracking space objects and the need for adaptable satellites, noting India's significant achievements in indigenous rocket production.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr. S. Somanath highlighted the growing importance of space situational awareness during his address at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2024. He stated that understanding the dynamic space environment is crucial as the number of objects in space continues to surge due to various satellite launches for communication, earth observation, and other purposes.
Dr. Somanath noted the rapidly changing domain, with advancements in resolution and spectral qualities, creating challenges in observing and monitoring space objects. He remarked on the crowded nature of the moon and Mars, resulting from repeated human space missions.
Emphasizing the evolving communication technology, Dr. Somanath discussed the need for flexible and adaptive satellites. He highlighted India's strides in indigenous rocket production, with 95% of rocket components made domestically, while acknowledging ongoing dependence on high-end electronics from abroad for spacecraft.
