The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced on Tuesday that a chargesheet has been filed against Gurpreet Singh, widely known as Gopi, in connection with a Punjab terror conspiracy case. Singh is identified as a key associate of internationally designated Khalistani terrorists Harwinder Singh Sandhu, alias Rinda, and Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa.

Submitted to the NIA Special Court in Mohali, the chargesheet links Singh to the banned terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), revealing his involvement in a conspiracy to spread terror across Punjab and beyond. According to the investigation, he played a role in a rocket-propelled grenade attack on the Sarhali Police Station in December 2022.

The NIA's probe further concluded that Singh maintained contact with his handlers abroad even while incarcerated and conspired to extort funds for BKI in India, recruiting vulnerable youth as part of the terror plot. Additionally, an illegal weapon was seized from his residence during a search operation in January, leading to charges under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Indian Penal Code, and Arms Act.
