In a significant diplomatic development, India and China have agreed on new patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), marking a step forward in resolving the border stand-offs that arose in eastern Ladakh in 2020. This agreement, hailed as 'welcoming news' by retired Lieutenant General DP Pandey, underscores the efficacy of sustained diplomatic dialogue.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, during a media briefing before Prime Minister Modi's visit to Russia for the BRICS Summit, revealed the agreement's successful culmination, highlighting discussions held between Indian and Chinese officials. This move is anticipated to lead to disengagement in areas affected by past military tensions.
The resolution was confirmed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the 'NDTV World Summit 2024'. He noted that the understanding reached between both nations symbolizes a return to the border conditions before May 2020, reflecting the results of persistent, patient negotiations since September 2020.
