Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marked Police Smriti Diwas by announcing a substantial Rs 100 crore allocation for building residential facilities for police personnel in the next financial year. This day, observed on October 21, honors the sacrifice of 10 policemen who perished in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959, as stated by the Chief Minister's Office.

During the commemorative event at the Shaheed Smarak in Dehradun, Chief Minister Dhami paid homage to police and paramilitary personnel. He announced an increase in various allowances: a Rs 100 rise in the nutritious diet allowance, a Rs 3,500 boost in the uniform allowance for Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, and an increase in the high altitude allowance for personnel stationed above 9,000 feet from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per day.

Addressing the attendees, CM Dhami highlighted the police's role in national security and acknowledged the sacrifice of four Uttarakhand policemen among 216 nationwide. He noted the challenges faced by police in areas like terrorism and natural disasters. Dhami stressed the significance of Uttarakhand's geographical position and the need for vigilant policing against cybercrime, drug abuse, and crimes against women. Initiatives like the formation of a 'QRT' under the 'Women Help Desk' and the construction of 380 houses worth Rs 150 crore for police personnel were announced as part of the government's commitment to improving law enforcement infrastructure.
