The Commission for Air Quality Management has initiated Stage II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR after the region's air quality fell to the 'Very Poor' category on Monday. The move comes as the Air Quality Index (AQI) hit a daily average of 310, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board.
With forecasts suggesting that the AQI could remain in the 'Very Poor' category due to unfavorable weather conditions, the Sub-Committee responsible for GRAP reviewed the current air quality scenario. Additional measures are now enforced alongside Stage I actions to avert further deterioration, beginning 8:00 am on October 22, 2024.
The action plan includes mechanical road sweeping, water sprinkling to suppress dust, intensified inspections, and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to limit the use of alternative power sources like diesel generators. The plan encourages the public to use public transport, minimize personal vehicle usage, and avoid activities contributing to air pollution.
