Many Cubans are grappling with widespread blackouts that have extended into their third day, prompting protests in the streets amid heightened concerns following Hurricane Oscar's arrival with its destructive winds and rain.
In Havana's Santo Suárez neighborhood, residents took to the streets on Sunday night, expressing their frustration by banging pots and pans. 'We haven't had electricity for three nights, and our food is rotting,' lamented Mary Karla, a mother of three.
Energy Minister Vicente de la O Levy announced plans to restore the power grid by Monday or Tuesday, but stressed that Hurricane Oscar poses additional challenges, striking key power-generating regions. Meanwhile, local efforts are bolstered by international support from countries like Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela.
