Punjab farmers are urging the government to develop a permanent solution for the issue of stubble burning, which they cite as a necessity due to limited alternatives. This demand comes in the wake of a recent incident reported in Nehian Wala village, Bathinda, emphasizing the ongoing tension between farmers and policymakers.
In a conversation with ANI, farmer Ram Singh articulated the need for a sustainable resolution, condemning the government's lack of action. 'The government always blames farmers for pollution,' he stated, highlighting the industrial contributions to environmental degradation and criticizing the penalties imposed on those who burn stubble due to a lack of machinery.
Farmer leader Suresh Koth from Ambala echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the Haryana government's stringent measures, which include filing FIRs against farmers. Koth argued for the provision of stubble management machines in each village, emphasizing that industries, rather than farmers, are major pollution sources. He further accused authorities of imposing financial penalties that could spur unrest and reiterated the farmers' determination to uphold their rights.
