Aviation Ministry Tackles Rising Hoax Bomb Threats

Amid an uptick in hoax bomb threats, the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation is intensifying efforts to address the issue. Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu discussed the situation, revealing potential legislative changes while police continue investigations. Airlines Vistara and Akasa Air implemented safety measures following recent threats.

The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation is ramping up efforts to combat a surge in hoax bomb threats impacting the airline industry, according to a recent announcement by Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu. Speaking to ANI, Naidu emphasized that the ministry is taking the issue seriously, collaborating closely with law enforcement to identify those responsible for these alarming incidents.

Naidu highlighted potential legislative changes alongside existing protocols as authorities strive to prevent future occurrences. "We are considering changes in legislation and rules," Naidu stated, underscoring the difficulties in pinpointing the motives behind these hoaxes. He pointed out that diligent police work is essential to apprehend the culprits responsible.

The minister revealed that initial investigations suggest the threats may originate from a single individual using social media to spread chaos. In response, the government is employing intelligence agencies and engaging with various stakeholders, including the Home Affairs department, to enhance preventive measures. "If identified, the perpetrators will face severe consequences," Naidu warned.

The situation escalated on Sunday, prompting airlines Vistara and Akasa Air to enact emergency protocols following security threats on twelve flights. Vistara identified six affected flights, including international routes, and ensured all prescribed security measures were implemented under the guidance of relevant authorities. Similarly, Akasa Air addressed alerts on six of its flights, activating its Emergency Response team to manage the situation effectively.

Officials from both airlines confirmed that all necessary steps were taken to safeguard passengers and crew, with affected flights undergoing thorough inspections before resuming operations. "The safety and security of our customers and staff remain our top priorities," a Vistara spokesperson affirmed, mirroring sentiments expressed by Akasa Air amidst this pressing security challenge.
