In a significant drug bust, Assam's Special Task Force seized 637 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs six crore from a vehicle in Amingaon, Kamrup district. The operation, which unfolded late Saturday night, resulted in the apprehension of two individuals, as confirmed by police officials on Sunday.

According to Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Inspector General of Police (STF) for Assam, the police acted on intelligence suggesting narcotics were being dispatched from Manipur's Kangpokpi district to various Lower Assam districts. Authorities intercepted the consignment intended for 31-year-old Murtaza Ahmed, alias Bhulu, in a Tata Nexon at Amingaon, uncovering 49 packets of heroin weighing 637 grams.

The estimated market value of the seized heroin is pegged at around Rs six crore. Law enforcement further detained 27-year-old truck driver Prasant Toppo, who transported the illicit goods from Manipur, arresting him at a Changsari parking lot. Both the Tata Nexon and truck have been confiscated, and legal proceedings are underway as the investigation progresses.
