In an earnest appeal to address climate change, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud highlighted the importance of living in harmony with nature.

He was speaking at the launch of the book 'Traditional Trees of Bharat,' compiled by Governor of Goa PS Sreedharan Pillai, at a function in Raj Bhavan on Saturday.

Chandrachud stressed, "Nature exists in the present, and therefore, natural resources should be utilized judiciously without exploitation."

CJI Chandrachud lauded Governor Pillai for his book focusing on traditional trees, underscoring the vital connection between humans and nature. He commended the efforts that celebrate the intrinsic bond between human culture and Mother Earth.

The Chief Justice also praised Pillai's initiatives aimed at improving the lives of common people through various social projects.

Governor Pillai expressed approval of CJI Chandrachud's move to promote local languages within the judiciary. He praised the translation of over 10,000 Supreme Court judgments into local languages, making legal decisions accessible to India's diverse population.

Governor Pillai reiterated the vibrancy of India's democracy, commending the Indian Constitution for its respect within the courts.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recognized the book's role in promoting India's ecological heritage, attributing it to the deep ties between people, culture, and nature.

The book includes contributions from environmentalists, researchers, and scholars and is based on a symposium dedicated to India's traditional trees, recently held at Raj Bhavan.
