Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated, through virtual means, the Prerna Sthal in Burdang, Sikkim, in honor of 22 soldiers who perished in the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood at South Lhonak Lake in October of the previous year. Inclement weather in Gangtok necessitated Singh's participation from the Trishakti Corps Headquarters in Sukna, West Bengal.
During his address, Singh paid homage to the soldiers, lauding their unwavering dedication to the country. He noted that the newly inaugurated Prerna Sthal immortalizes the soldiers' sacrifice and bravery, serving as a perpetual reminder and inspiration to the populace.
Singh emphasized the role of such memorials in symbolizing the soldiers' sacrifices and in fostering national pride among citizens, drawing parallels to the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Attendees at the event included Sikkim's Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, alongside other dignitaries who joined in solemn tribute.
