Fatal Chemical Leak at Deer Park Refinery: An Investigation Unfolds
A chemical leak at Pemex-operated Deer Park refinery in Texas resulted in two fatalities and medical treatment for 35 individuals due to hydrogen sulfide gas exposure. An investigation is underway to determine the cause, with operations expected to resume soon after a temporary shutdown.
A tragic chemical leak at the Deer Park refinery in Texas, owned by Mexico's national oil firm Pemex, has led to the recovery of two deceased individuals and spurred a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the incident, the company's top executive announced on Friday.
The 312,500-barrel-per-day facility, situated near Houston, experienced an exposure to hydrogen sulfide gas, affecting up to 35 people who received medical attention either on-site or at nearby hospitals, according to local Texas officials.
Pemex CEO Victor Rodriguez stated that the deceased were not Pemex employees but refrained from revealing their contractor employer. Three or four plants were temporarily shut, with Energy Minister Luz Elena Gonzalez indicating that refinery operations should normalize later in the day.
