The Union Cabinet, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has greenlighted the establishment of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat, as announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday.
This ambitious project promises to be the largest of its kind worldwide, aiming to highlight India's extensive maritime history. The development, which will proceed in two phases, received in-principle approval for Phases 1B and 2, contingent upon securing necessary funding primarily through voluntary contributions.
Phase 1A of the project is already underway, targeting completion by 2025 with over 60% of its physical work finalized. The NMHC, expected to generate approximately 22,000 jobs, plans expansive exhibits including naval galleries, a Lighthouse Museum, and state pavilions to invigorate tourism and local economies.
