The Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to back Auto LPG as an environmentally friendly fuel alternative. In a letter highlighted by Director General Suyash Gupta, the coalition emphasizes the fuel's substantial environmental and economic advantages over conventional fuels.
As a clean-burning fuel, Auto LPG dramatically curtails emissions of pollutants like particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide, enhancing air quality and reducing the carbon footprint. This makes Auto LPG a key player in India's compliance with international climate commitments and sustainable development goals. Gupta points out, "Auto LPG emits 20% less CO2 than petrol and 60% less than diesel, with almost no particulate matter and significantly lower nitrogen oxide emissions, supporting energy independence through diverse import routes."
The IAC highlights Auto LPG's lower conversion costs, around 40% cheaper than petrol, facilitating its adoption compared to electric vehicles and CNG. Continuous advocacy by the coalition aligns with efforts to integrate cleaner fuels into sustainable frameworks, calling for policies that leverage Auto LPG's economic and environmental potential.
Gupta underscores the Ujjwala Yojana's role in bolstering the LPG infrastructure, which supports Auto LPG's stable supply chain. Globally, over 27 million vehicles utilize Auto LPG, consuming 25 million tonnes annually, demonstrating its significant market presence. The IAC appeals for tax incentives and policy changes, including lowering GST from 18% to 5% on Auto LPG, to incentivize manufacturers and consumers alike.
