Marginal Dip in CIL's Coal Production for September

State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) witnessed a marginal 1% drop in coal production to 50.9 million tonnes in September, compared to 51.4 million tonnes in the same month last year. Despite this dip, the April-September coal production increased by 2.5% to 341.5 million tonnes. However, coal offtake also saw a rise for the same period.

In a recent development, state-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) registered a slight 1% decline in coal production for September, producing 50.9 million tonnes (MT) compared to 51.4 MT in September of the last fiscal year, according to a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Despite this minor setback, CIL reported a 2.5% increase in coal production for the April-September period, achieving 341.5 MT compared to 332.9 MT in the previous year. Additionally, the amount of coal supplied also saw a decrease to 54.4 MT last month from 55.2 MT in the same month last year.

However, the coal offtake for the April-September period improved, rising to 366.6 MT from 360.6 MT. Though CIL's production soared by 10% to 773.6 MT in 2023-24, it fell short of the 780 MT target for the fiscal year. The company has set an ambitious production and off-take target of 838 MT for FY 2025.
