A Delhi Court has recently acquitted a father and son accused of burning Fatima Mosque and nearby houses during the North East Delhi riots in February 2020. The case was initially registered at the Khajoori Khas police station.
Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Pulastya Pramachala cleared Mithhan Singh and his son, Jony Kumar, citing insufficient evidence to prove their presence among the rioters. The court questioned the credibility of statements by constables Pradeep Kumar and Kalik Tomar, who identified the accused at a later date, noting that these statements may have been influenced by predetermined biases.
The original complaint was filed by Mohd. Munazir, who alleged that rioters attacked the Fatima Mosque and nearby homes, including his own. Despite his plea, the mosque and his house were set ablaze. Post-investigation, charges against Mithhan Singh and Jony Kumar included offences like rioting, robbery, and arson, but they were ultimately acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
