In a significant move to enhance judicial efficiency across various states, the Central Government, through the Ministry of Law and Justice, announced the appointment of Chief Justices to eight High Courts on Saturday. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal broke the news via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The appointments follow the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendations made on July 11, 2023. On September 17, 2023, the Collegium revised its initial proposals for four of these High Courts. One notable appointment is Justice Manmohan, who has been elevated from Acting Chief Justice to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

Other key appointments include Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Justice Rajiv Shakdher as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, and Justice Suresh Kait as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Additionally, Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar has been named the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, while Justice Tashi Rabstan is now the regular Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. Justice Shriram Kalpathi Rajendran will head the Madras High Court, and Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao has been transferred to the Jharkhand High Court as its new Chief Justice.
