Farmers in Moradabad are reeling from extensive crop damage as heavy rain and strong winds have battered the region for the past two days. Reports indicate that 60 percent of sugarcane and 70 percent of paddy crops have been severely impacted, with concerns mounting over the potential for disease to exacerbate losses.

The relentless rain has left fields waterlogged, while powerful winds have caused crops to collapse. Many areas have seen sugarcane crops completely flattened and paddy fields submerged. 'The rain has been relentless, and the fields are filled with water,' said Dr. Rajendra Pal Singh, the district agriculture officer. 'The strong winds have caused the crops to fall, leading to significant damage. The sugarcane and paddy crops are severely affected.'

The situation remains dire as the adverse weather is forecasted to continue until September 15. Dr. Singh noted that while some crops might recover if the rain stops and the soil dries, the ongoing wet conditions pose a significant threat, particularly to small vegetables like onions, coriander, and cauliflower which are prone to quick rotting.

District authorities are assessing the extent of the damage and considering potential government assistance for the afflicted farmers. Dr. Singh assured that the government would provide support if the losses are extensive and advised farmers to use alternative measures to mitigate further damage.
