New Delhi [India], September 13 (ANI): In a significant decision, Delhi's Karkardooma Court acquitted ten individuals accused of participating in a 2020 rioting incident in Gokulpuri. The acquittal was granted due to benefit of doubt, as per Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Pulastya Pramachala's ruling on September 12. The individuals acquitted included Mohammed Shahnawaz alias Shanu, Mohd. Shoaib alias Chhutwa, Shahrukh, Rashid alias Raja, Azad, Ashraf Ali, Parvej, Md. Faisal, Rashid alias Monu, and Mohammed Tahir.
ASJ Pramachala stated, "I find that the charges leveled against all the accused persons in this case are not proved beyond reasonable doubts." The accused were initially charge-sheeted for multiple offences, including rioting and vandalism, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The case originated from a complaint by Narender Kumar, alleging that on February 24, 2020, about 1500 rioters armed with deadly weapons vandalized his rented property and threatened his family. After a comprehensive investigation, the police filed a charge sheet on July 14, 2020, with supplementary chargesheets submitted later. However, the court found the evidence insufficient to convict the accused.
