Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and District Magistrates to remain vigilant in light of heavy rains affecting Uttarakhand. Authorities caution residents against unnecessary travel during this period of adverse weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several southern districts and an orange alert for other areas across the state. According to IMD, a depression over northwest Uttar Pradesh is anticipated to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours, predominantly affecting southern Uttarakhand and neighboring Uttar Pradesh. These regions can expect scattered to broken clouds with intense convection, accompanied by rainfall and gusty winds.
Continuous rain in Nainital has led to the closure of the Haldwani-Sitarganj road due to excessive water flow. The IMD also forecasted decreased rainfall in Madhya Pradesh as a weather system moved towards South West Uttar Pradesh. Nonetheless, sporadic showers may persist. Heavy rain is predicted for eastern Madhya Pradesh after September 15 due to a new low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal.
