Heavy rain in Mainpuri caused three separate incidents of wall collapses in the villages of Rajalpur, Shivpuri, and Katra, resulting in the deaths of five people on Tuesday night. The victims were identified as Kaptan Singh Jatav from Rajalpur village; Mamta Devi (40), Dilip Kumar (35), and Manoj Yadav from Shivpuri; and Ramu (35) from Katra village in Bhongaon.

The administration, along with police assistance, swiftly responded to the areas after receiving the information, extracting the bodies from the debris and sending them to the mortuary. Nibhya, a family member of the victims from Shivpuri, expressed her shock over losing her mother and uncle in the disaster.

"We were sleeping when the wall collapse happened. I was with my brother and sister. As soon as we heard the wall collapse, we went to our mother and my uncle to be together. However, by the time we reached them, the debris had already fallen on them," she said. Sunil Singh, a Rajalpur resident, shared that he learned about the incident at 6 a.m., and upon arriving at the scene, he found two bodies buried under the rubble.

"The collapse occurred during the night. However, I received information in the morning. When I reached Rajalpur, two people were already under the debris. The wall that had collapsed was weak," he mentioned. Additional District Magistrate Ram Ji Mishra said that heavy rains were responsible for the tragic incidents, which claimed five lives.

"The incidents due to heavy rain in the villages of Rajalpuri, Shivpuri, and Katra last night killed five individuals, including two children aged two and a half months and five months. The administration team rushed to the scene to remove the bodies from the debris," he stated, offering his condolences to the bereaved families.

IMD has issued a forecast warning of heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy rain over west Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain is also expected in isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, and east Rajasthan today. A depression over the Bay of Bengal, now settled over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjacent southwest Uttar Pradesh, is cited as the cause for the downpour. The IMD said the system is under continuous surveillance. (ANI)
