The 15th Annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Inter-State Drama Festival, organized by the renowned amateur theatre group Samahar Natya Gosthee, will unfold from September 12 to September 15 at the District Library Auditorium in Guwahati, Assam. Lauding this occasion, the Drama Festival Committee President, Lalit Sarma, expressed great joy in formally announcing the event.

'During its 14 years of existence, this festival has become a landmark cultural event in the state. It is now our significant responsibility to ensure its grand success, as in previous years,' he stated. Since 2007, Samahar has honored the legacy of Brajanath Sharma— the father of Assamese Mobile Theatre—by organizing this theatre extravaganza. Brajanath Sharma revolutionized modern Assamese theatre by introducing women on stage for co-acting in 1933.

Sharma, also a passionate freedom fighter, destroyed the British aerodrome at Bornagar, Sarbhog police station, post office, among other structures in Barpeta district. The schedule for the 15th edition includes an inauguration on September 12, where the festival lamp will be lit by Brajanath Sharma's descendants, Hiranbala Devi and Neelakshi Mishra Sharma. Distinguished politician, intellectual, and writer Hemen Das will inaugurate the festival. Following the inauguration, the festival souvenir 'Kohinoor,' will be unveiled by eminent writer Toren Boro, former President of Bodo Sahitya Sabha. The opening night will feature 'PIL-99,' presented by Drasta from Guwahati, written by playwright Sitanath Lahkar and directed by Indrajit Kakati, spotlighting corruption related to drinking water.
