Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken a strong stance against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent comments made during his visit to the US, comparing his language to that of a pro-Khalistan separatist. In an interview with ANI, Dhami accused Gandhi of attempting to harm India's cultural unity and undermining the confidence of the Sikh community.
Dhami's remarks follow Gandhi's speech in Washington DC, where he highlighted issues faced by Sikhs regarding their religious practices. 'The fight in India is about whether a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear a turban, whether a Sikh will be allowed to wear a kada or go to the Gurudwara,' he said, emphasizing that these concerns extend to all religions.
In addition to the comments on Gandhi, CM Dhami also responded to former Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's statements about feeling afraid during visits to the region, comparing past and present conditions in Kashmir. Dhami credited the abrogation of Article 370 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for bringing tourism and prosperity to Kashmir, ending separatism and terrorism. Dhami further criticized the Congress party for its approach to the names of spiritual places and reservations for the Gujarat and Bakarwal communities, accusing it of hypocrisy and corruption.
