Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the urgent need for focusing on new areas of energy transition like Green Hydrogen to address climate change. Speaking via video at the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen India 2024, Modi stated that the impacts of climate change are no longer a future concern but are being felt now, requiring immediate action.

He highlighted that Green Hydrogen is poised to be a significant part of the global energy landscape, particularly for decarbonizing industries that are difficult to electrify, such as refineries, fertilizers, and steel. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023, aims to make India a leading global hub for Green Hydrogen production, utilization, and export, with the government allocating Rs 19,744 crore to this initiative.

Modi emphasized the importance of international cooperation to scale up production, reduce costs, and advance research and innovation in Green Hydrogen technologies. He also mentioned that the rapidly expanding sector is expected to attract over Rs 8 lakh crore in total investments and generate employment for over 6 lakh people, significantly reducing imports of natural gas and ammonia and helping in the reduction of carbon emissions.
