Top Congress leaders convened in the national capital on Tuesday to strategize for the upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. With dates for polls in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir already announced, the Election Commission is expected to set dates for Jharkhand and Maharashtra soon.

The meeting, held at the AICC headquarters in Delhi, was spearheaded by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and saw the participation of Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, among other senior leaders. A video of the meeting was released by the AICC.

In a related development, Congress appointed MPs Ranjeet Ranjan, MK Raghavan, and Amar Singh as secretaries of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), while Vijay Vasanth was named Treasurer. These appointments were made by CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, with an official notification issued by KC Venugopal.

Polling in Jammu and Kashmir is set to take place in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with Haryana's legislative assembly elections slated for October 5. Votes in both states will be counted on October 8. Jharkhand's elections to its 81-member assembly will be scheduled later this year as its current tenure ends in 2024. Maharashtra's 288 assembly constituencies are also gearing up for elections later this year.
