In Kolkata, doctors staged protests on Tuesday to demand justice for the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The demonstration took place near Swasthya Bhavan, with doctors chanting slogans and calling for the arrest of those responsible.

Despite a Supreme Court ruling on Monday that no action would be taken against doctors if they returned to work by September 10, the medical professionals refuse to resume their duties until their demands are satisfied. The president of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital's Resident Doctors' Association, Aniket Mandal, has stated that the protest will continue until action is taken.

Among the doctors' demands are the arrest of all culprits involved in the incident, the formation of a disciplinary action committee by the health ministry, and the suspension of Sandip Ghosh. The Trinamool Congress Party and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have both urged doctors to return to work, warning of the increasing human cost of their absence.
