In a swift response to severe flooding, the Indian Army has initiated an urgent deployment to evacuate residents stranded in Kakinada. The flooding was triggered by an overflow from the Yeleswaram reservoir, causing a breach in the Eluru Canal near Rajupalem village and inundating eight administrative divisions.

The Southern Command of the Indian Army responded to a request for assistance, dispatching columns to evacuate those trapped in their homes. Kakinada, approximately 210 kilometers east of Vijayawada, is now the focal point of a coordinated rescue effort involving multiple teams. Initially stationed in Vijayawada, an Indian Army relief column was redirected at 5 pm on Monday to bolster operations in Kakinada.

Additional teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are mobilizing from Vijayawada. An advance party from the Army is on route to assess the situation and coordinate with Kakinada's District Collector. Comprehensive relief efforts, including the deployment of heavy equipment and boats from Secunderabad, will commence at 6 am on September 10, 2024. The response teams are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected population. (ANI)
