Tata Power has initiated production at India's largest single-location solar cell manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, marking a significant boost in domestic manufacturing capabilities for solar energy components.

According to a statement from TP Solar Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), commercial production has begun from the new 2GW solar cell line at its Tirunelveli facility. This follows earlier success in solar module production this year.

The facility, initially starting with a 2GW production capacity, is set to double to 4GW within the next few months. Tata Power has committed approximately Rs 4,300 crore to this venture, which aims to meet the rising demand for high-quality, locally-produced solar components for large-scale projects.
