In a decisive move to tackle winter air pollution, the Delhi government has imposed a comprehensive ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers in the national capital. The prohibition, which also includes online sales and deliveries, will be in force until January 1, 2025, announced Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai.

Rai further disclosed on Thursday that the Environment Department will employ drones for real-time air quality monitoring at pollution hotspots as part of a newly introduced 21-point Winter Action Plan. 'This initiative marks a first for Delhi,' noted Rai, emphasizing the enhanced measures to curb seasonal air pollution.

During a press conference, Rai mentioned that all relevant departments have been instructed to submit detailed action plans and recommendations to the Environment Department by September 12. He added that the government has significantly ramped up its anti-pollution efforts under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's leadership, resulting in a 30% reduction in pollution over the past nine years. Additionally, Rai has reached out to Delhi state unit presidents of Congress and BJP, seeking their positive suggestions to enhance the Winter Action Plan.
