Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi on Monday announced the arrest of six individuals who pelted stones at a Ganesh pandal in Surat's Sayedpura area. In addition to the primary perpetrators, 27 others who encouraged the incident have also been detained.
Speaking to ANI, Sanghvi stated, "We are taking stringent measures. After stones were thrown at the Ganesh pandal, a clash ensued, prompting immediate police intervention. The investigation continues, and we are committed to maintaining peace in Surat."
Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot added, "The situation quickly escalated after some children initiated the stone-pelting. Police were swiftly deployed, tear gas and lathi charge were used where necessary. Around 1,000 police personnel are currently stationed throughout the area to preserve order." More details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
