Electricite d'Haiti (EDH) announced on Tuesday that Haiti's largest hydroelectric plant, Peligre, has ceased operations following protests over the country's troubled power distribution.

The halt began on Monday when demonstrators stormed the facility, demanding that regions outside the capital, Port-au-Prince, be prioritized for electricity supply.

As a result, residents in the capital are now depending on diesel-powered generators and solar batteries for their energy needs.
