In a significant move to bolster energy efficiency across India, the National Test House (NTH), Department of Consumer Affairs, and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today. The MoU aims to strengthen the Standards & Labelling (S&L) Program, a key initiative promoting energy conservation nationwide. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, and Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power. Key Features of the MoU:

Referral Laboratory: BEE will recognize NTH as a referral laboratory and consult on technical disputes related to test results.

Technical Committees: BEE will nominate NTH officers to various technical committees, leveraging their expertise.

Capacity Building: NTH will provide capacity-building training for BEE officers at its regional laboratories and BEE headquarters in Delhi.

Program Review: A comprehensive review of the existing S&L Program, including check testing procedures, will be conducted.

Technical Collaboration: Both parties will collaborate on technical matters related to the S&L Scheme by mutual consent.

Speaking at the event, Smt. Khare emphasized the importance of designing products that are durable and reliable, noting that this MoU would strengthen the relationship between NTH and BEE to benefit consumers. Shri Agarwal highlighted the role of star ratings in ensuring the consistent delivery of energy-efficient products, stating that the partnership with NTH will enhance market surveillance and testing reliability.

This MoU marks a significant step towards achieving the goals of sustainable development, energy conservation, and reducing carbon footprints, contributing to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The MoU was signed by Shri Milind Deore, Secretary of BEE, and Shri Alok Kumar Srivastava, Director General of NTH.

NTH, established in 1912, is India's largest multidisciplinary testing laboratory, offering technical consultancy, testing, calibration, and quality evaluation services. BEE, founded in 2002, plays a crucial role in reducing the energy intensity of India's economy through policy and strategy development for energy conservation.
