Protest Over Police Commissioner's Resignation Escalates in Kolkata

A group of agitating junior doctors marched to the Kolkata Police Headquarters demanding the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. Despite initial resistance by the police, the protesters reached close to Lalbazar. They allege inadequate police action regarding a recent rape-murder case involving a young doctor.

A group of agitating junior doctors, accompanied by senior officers, marched to the Kolkata Police Headquarters at Lalbazar on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. This development comes nearly 24 hours after they began their protest march.

The doctors, joined by common citizens and students, spent the night on BB Ganguly Street, continuing their demand for justice and protection. The police eventually lifted barricades, allowing the medics to march closer to Lalbazar.

Junior doctors allege that police took inadequate steps during the probe into the rape-murder of a young doctor, a case now handed over to the CBI. Their protest is expected to continue until they meet the Commissioner of Police to express their grievances.
