Thousands of U.S. Hotel Workers Strike Amid Contract Disputes

Thousands of hotel workers across several major U.S. cities have launched a multi-day strike, according to Unite Here, a union that represents workers in hotels, casinos, and airports in the U.S. and Canada. Negotiations with hotel giants Marriott International, Hilton Worldwide, and Hyatt Hotels have come to a standstill.

As of now, over 4,000 employees are striking in cities including San Francisco, San Jose, Boston, Seattle, and Greenwich, Connecticut. Additional workers from other cities, such as Baltimore and Honolulu, have been authorized to strike at any moment.

Hyatt expressed disappointment over the unions' choice but emphasized continued negotiations. The strike has intensified as bookings for Labor Day weekend travel soar by 9% compared to last year, highlighting the crucial timing and impact of the labor action.
