Over 1,000 hotel workers in Boston and Greenwich have commenced a three-day strike following unsuccessful contract discussions with major hotel chains Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt, stated the Unite Here union on Sunday.

The union emphasized that this action, initiated during the Labor Day holiday weekend, signals a broader movement with more workers in various cities possibly joining the strike. Unite Here, representing employees in hotels, casinos, and airports across the U.S. and Canada, highlighted ongoing frustrations regarding stagnant wages and pandemic-era job cuts.

Authorized strikes could begin in Baltimore, Honolulu, Kauai, New Haven, Oakland, Providence, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle at any moment, with 40,000 hotel workers' contracts expiring this year. Unite Here President Gwen Mills criticized the hotel's industry's current direction and emphasized the union's resolve to fight against diminished worker rights and service cuts.
