The Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi on Friday granted bail to Sukesh Chandrasekhar regarding the bribery case involving AIADMK's 'two-leaves' symbol. Despite being granted bail, Chandrasekhar remains in jail due to other pending cases. Special Judge Vishal Gogne highlighted the significance of liberty and the necessity of avoiding prolonged detention without resolution.

The court stressed that the delay in proceedings could not be attributed to Chandrasekhar, who exercised his right to challenge the order on charge. As proceedings were stayed by the Supreme Court and High Court of Delhi, the accused should not be penalized or deprived of the provisions of section 479 BNSS.

Advocate Anant Malik, representing Chandrasekhar, argued his client has been detained for over 7 years since being apprehended in April 2017, whereas the maximum punishment for the charges does not exceed 7 years. Opposing the bail plea, Delhi Police counsel cited the gravity of the accusations, including a recovery of Rs. 1.3 crore allegedly intended for bribing the Election Commission to secure a favorable symbol for an AIADMK faction. The chargesheet also named several others involved in the bribery case.
