Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha has handed over the first installment of funding for hybrid power projects on three Sri Lankan islands, aimed at creating a hybrid renewable energy system. The initiative is backed by Indian grant assistance worth USD 11 million.
The islands of Delft, Nainativu, and Analaitivu, located off northern Jaffna, will benefit from these projects. The energy systems are designed to address the energy requirements of the islands, which are currently not connected to the national grid.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2022 after replacing a Chinese venture. The project is expected to be completed by early 2025, with work already underway at the three sites.
