Former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna was discharged from Manipal Hospital on Wednesday after making a full recovery, the hospital said in a statement. Admitted with respiratory issues months ago, he received treatment under Dr. Satyanarayana, Dr. Sunil Karanth, and the critical care team.

The hospital credited coordinated care and the patient's efforts for his successful recovery and discharge. Krishna, 91, held the position of Karnataka Chief Minister from October 11, 1999, to May 28, 2004, and served as External Affairs Minister from 2009 to 2012 in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government. He also served as Maharashtra Governor.

In March 2017, Krishna joined the BJP, ending a nearly 50-year association with the Congress. He retired from active politics last year. The hospital and all doctors involved wished him a speedy recovery.
