As the bodies of two teenage girls found hanging from a tree in Bhagautipur village, Farrukhabad, were taken to the crematorium ground, family members raised suspicions of foul play. They claimed one body had thorn piercings and belt marks, leading them to allege murder.
"We believe it is murder because the heavier girl was positioned above the lighter one, and there were injury marks and thorn piercings," said the father of one deceased girl. He demanded a thorough investigation and filed allegations against the local police's initial assessment of suicide.
Farrukhabad SP Alok Priyadarshi said the girls, aged 18 and 15, appeared to have committed suicide based on initial observations. SP Priyadarshi noted the girls were close friends and they were found hanging by a single dupatta. Chief Medical Officer Avanindra Kumar confirmed no evidence of sexual or physical assault was found post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Awadesh Prasad criticized Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's government, citing law and order failures. 'This incident is deeply saddening and indicative of the state's law enforcement issues,' he said, demanding a quick and comprehensive investigation along with financial aid for the victims' families.
