Mumbai's Dadar area came alive on Tuesday with vibrant celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami, highlighted by the Dahi Handi festival. Visuals from the scene captured women Govindas and crowds dancing and singing to traditional songs, marking the joyous atmosphere.

Dahi Handi, a significant cultural event, involves filling an earthen pot with curd, butter, and milk products, followed by a group forming a human pyramid to reach and break it. The festive occasion also saw children dressing as Krishna and various performances showcasing diverse talents.

The climax of the celebration featured a women's team of Govindas constructing a human pyramid to break the 'matki' suspended several feet above ground. The display of coordination and strength was extraordinary as one by one, they climbed to the top. The final act of breaking the pot symbolized Lord Krishna's playful nature and love for butter and curd.

These Dahi Handi celebrations are rooted in commemorating Lord Krishna's childhood exploits. Across cities, the day was marked with bhajans, religious dances, and spiritual discourses. Numerous social organizations hosted grand-scale Janmashtami events.

Scriptures indicate that Janmashtami is celebrated on the eighth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada, marking Lord Krishna's birth. The festival typically falls in August or September, according to the Western calendar. Celebrations include offering prayers to Lord Krishna, adorned swings, dance and music performances, and the spirited Dahi Handi competition. (ANI)
