The Mahila Congress is set to hold a significant protest in Shimla to spotlight pressing women's issues. The demonstration will coincide with the opening day of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly's monsoon session. Members plan to march to the Assembly, demanding the arrest of a BJP MLA over an alleged molestation case in Chamba district.
On Monday, All India Mahila Congress Chief Alka Lamba convened a meeting with the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Congress state executive in Shimla. During the meeting, resolutions were passed addressing three vital demands under the 'Mahila Nyaya Andolan,' a movement advocating for women's justice.
Speaking to the media, Lamba announced the restructuring of the Mahila Congress executive bodies and the launch of the 'Nari Nyay Andolan' from the next day, highlighting the state's initiation of a 1,500-rupee honorarium for women. She underscored the importance of women's safety nationwide and criticized the BJP's protection of individuals implicated in various cases. Lamba also called for the establishment of Mahila Thanas in all 68 constituencies and the formation of a Mahila Aayog in the state.
Lamba expressed gratitude to the Himachal Pradesh government for filing an FIR against BJP MLA Hansraj and criticized efforts to downplay the issue. She affirmed the Mahila Congress's commitment to pushing for women's reservations and broader safety measures.
