Vasantrao Balwantrao Chavan, the Congress Member of Parliament for Nanded, passed away on Monday in Hyderabad where he was being treated for multiple health issues. His last rites are expected to take place in Nanded.

The President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Nana Patole, expressed his condolences in a post on social media platform X. 'The news of the demise of senior Congress leader and Nanded MP Vasantraoji Chavan is very shocking,' Patole said, lauding Chavan's loyalty to the Congress party even in challenging times.

Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, also paid homage, noting Chavan's steadfast commitment to the Congress party. 'The death of Vasantraoji Chavan, a true pillar of Congress ideology, has caused a great loss to the party,' Wadettiwar said in his tribute on X.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Chavan reflected on his personal relationship with Vasantrao Chavan. 'His demise is very shocking; it was expected he would recover. We worked together in politics for many years, and his passing is a significant loss to the community,' Ashok Chavan remarked.

Vasantrao Chavan had contested against BJP's Chikhalikar Prataprao Govindrao in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, securing a 46% vote share in the Nanded Parliamentary Constituency.
