Five individuals have been detained in connection with the shooting of US-based non-resident Indian (NRI) Sukhchain Singh in Punjab's Amritsar, officials announced on Sunday. The attack occurred at Singh's residence in Daburji area of Amritsar.

Commissioner of Police Ranjit Singh Dhillon stated that the incident was fueled by a rivalry between two US-based families who employed local shooters. 'The firing incident stemmed from a mutual rivalry between two families residing in the US. They hired Indian shooters for the attack, knowing the victim was in Punjab. Five arrests have been made so far,' Dhillon reported.

Additional DCP Harpal Singh noted that the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and gained entry to Singh's home under the guise of inquiring about his luxury car's registration. 'They fired three shots, two hitting Singh before their weapon jammed,' Harpal Singh detailed. Singh's wife, Amandeep Kaur, described the horror as their children pleaded for mercy in vain.

Dhillon confirmed that Sukhchain Singh had recently returned to Punjab from the US and is currently out of danger after being treated at a hospital. Suspicions point toward Singh's ex-wife's relatives, and an FIR has been filed. The family seeks prompt justice.

Dr. Krishnan Srinivasan, who is treating Singh, stated that Singh was admitted with severe bleeding but is now stable with injuries to his face and hand.
