In anticipation of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) released its manifesto on Saturday, emphasizing efforts to restore Articles 370 and 35A, initiate diplomatic talks between India and Pakistan, and ensure the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley.

The manifesto declares that the PDP is determined to revive the constitutional guarantees that were unjustly revoked and aims to revert Jammu & Kashmir to its original status. The party stresses the importance of having the voices of its people heard and their rights safeguarded.

PDP criticized the unconstitutional and illegal revocation of Articles 370 and 35A in 2019, arguing that it has further complicated the Kashmir issue. The party advocates for diplomatic initiatives between India and Pakistan, promoting conflict resolution, confidence-building measures, and regional cooperation while establishing full connectivity across the LoC for trade and social exchange.

The manifesto also pledges to work for the revocation of PSA, UAPA, and Enemy Act to end unjust arrests of activists, journalists, and concerned citizens. They committed to ensuring the return of Kashmiri Pandits to their homeland with revised housing schemes.

Additionally, PDP promises free 200 units of electricity per household, a one-time settlement for pending electricity bills, abolition of the water meter system, and free 12 cylinders per year for EWS. For social security, promised fund doubling from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 for pensions.

Other major promises include the regularization of 60,000 daily wagers, reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme for government employees, and the transfer of hydropower projects to Jammu and Kashmir. Infrastructure plans include a comprehensive 25-year urban development master plan and setting up a Disney Adventure Park in Srinagar.

The manifesto also highlights the restoration of the Waqf Board, promoting Sharda Peeth as a religious pilgrimage site, and restoration of dignity and inclusiveness. The assembly elections will be held in three phases starting on September 18, with results declared on October 4.

The coalition government of PDP-BJP fell apart in June 2018. The Supreme Court directed the Centre to conclude the election process by September 30, 2024.
