In a significant turn of events, all documents related to the alleged financial irregularities at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), police confirmed on Saturday. The move follows orders issued by the court.

Former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, made an appearance at the CBI Special Crime Branch office at the Central Government Offices Complex (CGO) in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The Calcutta High Court had transferred the investigation from the SIT to the CBI on Friday.

The court approved a polygraph test for Ghosh and five other individuals connected to the case. These individuals include four doctors and one civic volunteer, all of whom were in contact with the deceased doctor on the day of the incident. The High Court's order came during a hearing of a petition by Akhtar Ali, the hospital's former deputy superintendent, who accused Ghosh of financial misconduct.

The CBI has been given three weeks to file a progress report on their investigation, with a deadline of September 17. In a related case, the Sealdah Court has remanded Sanjay Roy, main accused in the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor, to 14 days of judicial custody until September 6, 2024.

Amid rising tensions and protests, the Supreme Court has ordered the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to take over security at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This decision comes in the wake of ongoing investigations and aims to enhance public safety.
